Your Home's Hand Shake

Do you ever really give any consideration to the door handle to your home or a building that you frequent? Maybe you don't consider it consciously, but those door handles do make an impression.

I'm sure you've been to a nice bouquet or store where they have fabulous door pulls that just caught your attention because they were so grand or unique. I just love this quote by Juhani Pallasmaa, “The door handle is the handshake of the building.”

If you think about it that way, you can be assured that those door handles/door knobs are making the first impression to a home or building. Therefore it is important that we pay attention to our entrances and the door fixtures we are using. We also need to make sure we are maintaining those that we have worked hard to keep up to date.

With it being the start of a new year, take a minute to survey what handshake your door handles are giving to the guests that come to your home. A fresh update or maybe just a polish just might be in store.
